FYG Lahore

Promoting tolerance, respect for diversity, and non-discrimination through education and the media, particularly among the younger generation, were the propositions discussed at Future Youth Group seminar on the subject “Role of Youth in Promoting Tolerance" on 23rd November at Holiday Inn Hotel, Lahore. The veteran spaekers, Prof. Ghulam Sarwar Qureshi, Dr Mujeeb Ullah, Col. (R) Khawar Munir Haroon, Mr Zaman Khan (HRCP) and Ms. Ayesha Javed MPA stressed the need of tolerant behaviours in

the society.

The younger generation is our present as well as future, and we all fervently desire for them to live in a world that is peaceful and democratic. Such a world must necessarily be based on the principles of tolerance, equality and social justice.

Speakers had enlightened youth with their thoughts, knowledge and opinion. Youth heard and learned a lot about tolerance. Some call it attitude, some call it a trait, according to some it needs to be implemented and some believe it’s a mere act.

Our honorable guests emphasized on the fact that this deed and act of tolerance is an individual contribution. Mr. Zaman Khan believes instead of promoting terrorism among the youth we need to educate them about liberalism and tolerance. The media according to him is the key player and it’s about time they start playing an important role in shaping up the attitudes of the society.

Our guests believed in promoting student unions, work groups and the organizations like Liberal Forum & Future Youth Group as the best source of civic education.

It was concluded that tolerance needs to be exercised in all the social and religious fabrics of society to ensure individual rights and a peaceful society. And the best way to promote tolerance and nondiscrimination is to ensure that all groups in society enjoy equal access to education and know their rights and responsibilities.
